LETTER EXPRESSING MY OPINION

Dear Mayor,

I read about the new plan to build a huge shopping mall on a site three miles outside Greenville and I'm writing to express my agreement. From my point of view,it would better to build the new mall.
First of all,the new mall will bring money into the local community. There will be a lot of new shops and other facilities which will probably bring money. With that money we can improve our city.We can create huge parks, eco-friendly buildings and cultural facilities, like museums or libraries. Also,it would increase job positions and fight poverty by taking on new employees to work in the shops. Moreover, there the shops will have more sales than other traditional shops and residents will be able to buy the things they want at discount and spend less money. Last but not least, teenagers could hang out with their friends there and also could buy things to enjoy themselves or to eat in a café.
On the other side of the coin, some citizens object to the opening of the new shopping mall, because this could mean the end of some local stores. In my opinion the owners of those shops in the city could transfer their shops into the new mall. It's a good idea but owners are obliged to pay the mall owner if they want to open a shop in there. This money will be worth spending.
I think you will take my suggestions into account and discuss them with the city council.

Yours,
Nick Koutentakis

Letter of opinion

TEST WRITING OF UNITS 1-3

 Dear Mayor,

I am writing to express my opinion about the huge shopping mall. In my opinion , it is a great idea to build it , because many people can visit the mall and have fun.
So, I agree with building a shopping mall , because people can spend hours having fun or going shopping . Moreover , people can go to the cinema with their children and have fun by watching a movie. But some people believe that this idea is not so good because some children may leave their studies and stay at the mall for all day , which will not happen if parents are careful.
On the other hand , this shopping mall would be bad idea because of Greenville. Some people say that , at  the weekends they go to the centre of the town to do their shopping ,so they disagree  with shopping mall. However , I don't agree with them , because they can go for coffee or shopping at the department store, only at the weekends. On weekdays they can support the local shops.
To sum up , I agree with building the shopping mall and people that are against this plan should think again , because it is great to have the first shopping mall near our town.

Yours faithfully,
Nick Kokkinos

Letter of opinion

UNIT 3 WRITING PAGES 38-39

Dear Mayor
I am writing to express my opposition to the council's plan. In my opinion the beach is a place for relaxation and people can go there at the weekends. But if you turn the beach , into a popular resort , it will not be so good for all of us.
Fistly , I don't think that the beach needs to be developed because if there was a problem , then the local people wiil not go there to spend their weekends. Therefore ,it is not possible to develop the beach because families will not enjoy the sea for their excursions and picnics.
Secondly , I don't think that the beach need to developed , so if you turn the beach into a luxury resort , then we could have problems about the environment. We will have cause polution. Moreover , we might cause overcrowding at the beach.
I hope you will take my suggestions into account, when deciding on this matter.
                         Sincerely
                        Nick kokkinos

Letter of opinion

Dear Mayor,

I am writing to express my opposition to bulding a huge shopping mall. In my opinion, the huge shopping mall shouldn't be built.
There are a lot of advantages of not building a new shopping mall. First of all, Greenville won't be a crowded area if there is not a huge mall with thousands of people. Furthermore, the local residents will not lose their jobs, because if the local council builds a huge shopping mall, all the residents that work in this area will lose their shops. Also, if the local people buy from local shops, the mone that they give to shops will stay in Greenville. But, if the mall is built, all the money will go abroad to their owners.
There are some other disadvantages of build a huge mall. Firstly, with a huge shpping mall in Greenville there will be made overcrowding and the residents will not be able to sleep at night. Secondly, more traffic will be in the streets and then all the people will be late for their jobs. Last but not least, this huge shopping mall could mean the end for small local stores.
In conlusion, I disagree with the idea of building o huge shopping mall. I hope you take my suggestions into account.

Letter of opinion

Dear Editor,

I have recently read about the exchange program for foreign students, and I am writing to suggest a place for their day trip. In my opinion, the best place in my area are Samaria gorge and Richtis gorge.
First of all, Samaria gorge is located in the west of Crete. I thing this is a good place for your trip because you can cross the gorge and see the trees, flowers and the breathtaking background. If you decide to cross the gorge, it will be four hours of walking. In the middle of the gorge, students can stop to have a picnic and enjoy nature. At the end of the route, the trekkers will see Agia Roumeli village, where a taver, aperment and souvenir shops can be found.
Another place is Richtis gorge, which is located in the south od Rethymno and in the west of Crete. In this place, visitors can walk into the gorge, which is 3 hours of walking and watch the fantastic waterfalls. The biggest waterfall is ten meters tall. At the end od the gorge, there is a wonderful beach with very clean water and fantastic waterlife with a lot of fishes.
I hope that my advise will be taken into consideration when choosing a place for these students day trip.

What is the best way for me to spend my free time

In my life I have lots of hobbies and activities to spend my free time. Two of my favourite pastimes are definitely basketball and ganging out with my friends, but if I had to choose one, I think that I would prefer to relax with my mates and I have may reasons to support it.

I live in a block of flats and as you understand, there are many kids that I can play with almost every afternoom. We are nearly ten friends, so there are always available children. The spot that we meet is the parking area. There we can play football or we can run. There are also, benches that we sit and discuss or we tell jokes.

I love  spending my free time there, because we can do lots of things. We can play football or we can play cards. Also, we can go for a walk in our area. Furthermore, there is a lot of space to play tennis. There are so many activities for us to do. I have not lived more than two years in this block of flatsand my neighbours make me feel taht I belong with them. Moreover, this company is unique and I always have fun with them.

To sum up, this is how I like spending my free time. I love being with my lovely neighbours and sharing secrets, because I can trust them. I just love these children; there are like my second family.

Let's read about Halloween

Halloween or Hallowe'en (a contraction of All Hallows' Evening), also known as AllhalloweenAll Hallows' Eve,or All Saints' Eve] is a celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day. It begins the three-day observance of Allhallowtide, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed.
It is widely believed that many Halloween traditions originated from Celtic harvest festivals which may have pagan roots, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain, and that this festival was Christianized as Halloween. Some academics, however, support the view that Halloween began independently as a solely Christian holiday.
Αποτέλεσμα εικόνας για halloween wikipediaHalloween activities include trick-or-treating (or the related guising), attending Halloween costume parties, decorating, carving pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing and divination games, playing pranks, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories and watching horror films. In many parts of the world, the Christian religious observances of All Hallows' Eve, including attending church services and lighting candles on the graves of the dead, remain popular, although elsewhere it is a more commercial and secular celebration. Some Christians historically abstained from meat on All Hallows' Eve, a tradition reflected in the eating of certain foods on this vigil day, including apples, potato pancakes and soul cakes.

Do you ever argue about money with your parents or your friends?

The answer is no, I have never argued with my parents or my friends, because I am a responsible and punctual (OR: consistent) child. For example if I want to buy something I thing think it out very well before buying it. Moreover, when I buy something, I buy it with my pocket money. (FULL STOP) If it costs more than I afford, I am waiting always wait to collect the required money.

Students should work to earn money if they wish to travel. Do you agree? Why/ Why not?

I agree with this statement because if students don't work to earn money, and their parents give them money (OR: an allowance) in all their life they will wait for everything to come happen from their parents. One reason is students should work to earn money for their education or to travel around the world. To sum up, students should work to earn money for their life.

Speaking: Expressing opinion

Lend her money or sell necklace

On the one hand, (comma here) your sister will sell your's grandmother's necklace. (full stop) On the other hand, you will lend her money but she may not paid it back. If I were you, I'd lend her money because it is better to lose your money rather than sells the necklace. The Necklace has sentimental value for you and your family because your grandmother wore it. To sum up I think the best thing to do is to lend money to your sister to travel, because it is a pity to sells the necklace.

What do you think about borrowing money from family or friends?

I think borrowing money from friends or family could harm relationships. If you are strapped for cash and think about asking a friend or family for money, decide what is needed more, money or friendship. For example, if you asked your friend or family to lend you money, they will lend you, and when you are asked to return it, it may wreak havoc on your relationships. I believe this is always harmful. It is not a good idea to borrow or lend money in relations to relatives or family.

Review

I believe Star Wars 7 is an amazing,action-packed film with outstanding special effects all teenagers should watch.
First of all, there are 4 main characters,Po who is one of the best pilots on the rebellion,Jason who is the  protagonist and he is on the good side, too.Additionally, there is Lyla who is a woman fated to defeat the bad guy and restore balance over the universe and finally, Kylo Ren who is the bad guy and wants to kill Lyla so that no one will be able to stop him from taking over the world. This film is based on two sides fighting each other, the dark side which the villains are on,and the rebellion which our heroes are on.
Moreover, this movie contains breathtaking fights with lightsabers and spaceships that will keep you on the edge of your seat.I also recommend adolescents like me to check this film out because it contains a variety of characters with different personalities and also the Star Wars movies are some of the best films that have ever existed!
To conclude,I recommend to people around my age to watch Star Wars 7 because it has an awesome story, graphics and many characters so that the viewers will never get bored.

A film for all teenagers

Over the past years, I've seen different types of movies, but I have to choose one that is interesting and breath taking. In this case, "The Lord Of The Rings" is worth reviewing.
This film is about a  ring which is the only one that can change the heroes' personality from good to bad. However, the only way the ring can be destroyed is by fire. Frodo, who is the main character, is a short boy whith dark coloured hair and blue eyes. In addition, he inherts the ring from his uncle he tries to destroy it. Another main character is the Gollum, a small monster with enormous feet and hands, grey hair, violet skin and blue eyes. The Gollum wants to take the ring and become the king. So, it does anything to take it. There are ,also, some other characters, Frodo's friends, who help him and vilains who try for the opposite, to defend the ring. So all the story is around this jewellery and the efforts for its extinction.
I beleve that this movie is worthwhile to see because of the special effects, the plot and the amazing the scenes. Except that, most teenagers would like it. The adventure of this movie makes the viewer feel the suspense at all times.
All in all,   "The Lord Of The Rings"is a movie that everyone should see, from teenagers to adults, because it is a different story from the other ones and everyone would love it.

A film for Teens

I would recommend to young people to watch the Harry Potter franchise. It is a film with great characters, an interesting world and mystery that most teenagers would enjoy as well as older people.

The franchise is complete and includes 8 movies. Its main story is about a boy living in the normal world named Harry Potter. He lives with his uncle, his aunt and his cousin. They don't get along with each other really well and all the family is mean to him and sometimes just ignores him. However all this changes when Harry receives a letter from Hogwarts, a school for magicians that is in the world of wizards. There he makes many valuable friends, but also some deadly enemies.

The main charachters are Harry Potter, Ron Weasly, Hermione Granger, Harry's uncle ,aunt and cousin, and Voldemort. There are also many more interesting and important characters in the franchise.Ron and Hermione are the two wizards that are Harry's best friends and his classmates.Voldemort is the main villain of the films that tries to kill Harry because of past events and his evil intents. Harry's uncle, aunt and cousin took responsibility of Harry since he was a baby and his parents died because of Voldemort.

To conclude, I would recommend these films because they are interesting, with a lot of action, adventure and mystery that I believe many teenagers would enjoy. However, it is also a film that even older people could easily watch, too.

Freedom Writers

This is a review of a dramatic movie which is called "Freedom Writers". It is based on the book "The Freedom Writers Diary " by Erin Gruwell.
The story begins in a disreputable neighbourhood in California with gangs fighting every day .Erin Gruwell is just starting her first teaching job.Despite choosing the school on purpose because of its integration program, Erin is unprepared for the nature of her classroom whose students live only for protecting their own life at all costs. Many are in gangs and almost all know somebody that has been killed because of gang violence. Erin tries harder and harder to have resources provided to teach properly which ofter has results like paying for them by herself. She gives to students diaries to write about what is happening in their lives. She tries to make the students see the world in a different way. Even if the class has students from different gangs, at the end everyone helps each other.
To conclude, in my opinion it's a great film because it is all about tolerance. It shows what is happening all around the world by illustrating a small community with different gangs from other countries and cultures fighting. I loved the movie and I would like to read the book, too. I certainly recommend young people of my age age to watch this movie because it teaches us life lessons.

Our favorite youtube video

Stephen Curry is one of the best players in the history of the NBA and he was awarded as the mvp player of the season 2015-2016. He plays at the Golden State Warriors as a point guard. He has an excellent percentage on shooting from the three point line and he has excellent handles. Additionally he has broken many records like most points in a basketball quarter. Finally he is Del Curry's son, who was an NBA player too.

My favourite phrasal verbs with their meaning

This is the second video I have ever seen on this site called ''TED''.In my opinion, the video I linked was an amazing video which can give you too many things to think. The man talking was explaining how our brain works and the evolution of our brains since the prehistoric times. In the end,he says something very exciting; he said that in about 10 or 20 years we will have nanobots in our brains so it will be much easier and much faster to think about something we want, for example we will be like Google, our brain will be able to find hundreds of results in only 3 seconds, can you imagine that?As he was closing, the scientist said that we will be thinking with 2 ways, the non-biological way which we will be thinking with the help of the nanobots and the biological way which we will be thinking with our brains, that is going to be very slow of course.I forgot to mention, the man also stated that if we put nanobots in our brains our forehead is going to be bigger and we will be able to expand our thinking without limits.

Advice from a firefighter

https://www.ted.com/talks/mark_bezos_a_life_lesson_from_a_volunteer_firefighter#t-212603

This video was about a firefighter and his first experience as a volunteer firefighter and his life lesson from it.  In my opinion, the best part of this video was when the volunteer explained a life lesson he got. This is: Do what you want the time you think about it. In this way, he reminds us that we are people and we need help from others and the other way round. His final message, in my words was: Actions speak louder than words.

Letter

 Dear Editor,

I am writing this letter to demonstrate the advantages and disadvantages of choosing a job based on how much money you will earn.
First of all, if you choose work that appeals to you,but it does not earn you much money you could easily be something more than a mere employee because if you like what you do you do it with a lot more passion so the outcome is very pleasing. Moreover, when you are happy and positive about your job,the environment is nice, too. For example, if you smile all the time your colleagues will want to work with you.
On the other side, when you are not pleased with what you are doing, you will not do it very well and in this way you might actually end up losing your job. Futhermore, being disatisfied with your job will lead to being anxious and getting angry easier.
All in all, I firmly believe that people should choose a job that pleases them because in that way they will be happy and able to extend their carrier even further.

  Yours faithfully,
   Manolis

The best way to keep in touch with friends!

Everyone has friends and communication between friends is a very important issue, because due to communication the relationships become stronger. But which is the best way to keep in touch with friends?
In the first place, there are the new ways of communication such as texting, emailing and using the social networking sites. We are lucky nowadays, since technology gives us the opportunity to communicate with others really easily and fast.
Apart from the new ways, there are also the traditional ways of communication such as talking face-to-face or talking through mobile phones. They may be ''oldfashioned'', but they are very reliable, since through them you can achieve a better level of communication.
All in all, I believe that the best way to keep in touch with friends is talking face-to-face. This way you are able to see the other's expressions and understand how they feel.

Essay:Are teenagers capable to teach anything?

Many people believe that teenagers are too young to teach other people about anything. However is that statement really true?I personally do not agree with it.

First of all, teenagers usually know more about technology because they live with it from a very young age.Older people, many times face problems while trying to use a gadget or any type of technology. That results in teenagers being able to teach things about that to other people.Furthermore, they can also teach things about the environment because the latest years,  many things about it have changed and teens are given many information from their schools that wasn't known in the past or that older people might have forgotten.

On the other hand, things teenagers can teach are not much. The main reason is that elders have generally more experience on multiple things, know more about life and can teach many things better, such as historical events, grammar and even life advice.

To sum up, I disagree with this statement because I believe that even though teenagers are young, they can still have more knowledge about some things even if these are not a lot.

Essay: Computer games

Many people  believe that playing computer games is a complete waste of time. There are reasons for someone to think about it that way, but is that statement really true?Computer games sure have both advantages and disadvantages.

First of all, video games are a new way of entertainment that has yet to be accepted. With computer games you can have fun and spend some time, but it is not only that.Playing a video game is a new experience every time that has exceeded both movies and books ,in terms of the transmission of fear, other strong feelings and food for thought.Secondly, many believe that computer games are just for children; however, just a percentage of games is made for children. There are computer games for every age and for every type of character to enjoy. Finally, you can learn many things from video games, such as historical events, philosophers and their work, interesting information about science and physics etc.

However, there are also bad things about computer games.First of all, you might get addicted depending on your character and the game you are playing. So you need to make sure, you have a plan of how many hours you play per day and don't play too much.Secondly, you might get more weight and become unhealthy if playing video games is your only spare time activity. So you will have to also consider, going for walks or taking up a new sport. Finally, there is also the danger of violence for younger and less mature players. However, that isn't really a problem because as I said, there are computer games for all ages and the parents should control what games their child plays if they consider their child, not mature enough to distinguish between the bad and the good things a video game shows.

In conclusion, I believe, the pros outweigh the cons and that computer games surely are not a complete waste of time. Also, everyone (mostly youngsters) has to be careful with some things and play in moderation.

''The Adventures of Tom Sawyer''

''The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'' is a novel, which was written by Mark Twain in 1876, about a young boy growing up along the Mississippi River. In my opinion, it is a great book. My favourite scene was when Tom cleverly persuaded his friends to trade him small treasures for the privilege of doing his work. In this scene I discovered this great law of human behaviour: in order to make a person desire a thing, it is only necessary to make the thing difficult to obtain.

David Copperfield

My favourite scene from the book David Copperfield was when David visited Mr Micawber in prison.Mr Micawber was a very poor man that he had been arrested because he wasn't able to handle his money.David Copperfield was still very young and was being accommodated by Mr Micawber and his family. The poor man said : If a man earns twenty pounds a year and spends nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings, the result is happiness. But if he spends twenty pounds and one shilling, the result is misery. This scene was a life lesson!

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

I recently read a very interesting book by  R. L. Stevenson called Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
It is an atmospheric fantasy ,horror book which however is more like a mystery until the end and not that scary. It's topic is,being able to be someone else in appearance from time to time or just for a day and do whatever you want without consequences because no one will know it was you and nobody would be able to blame you for your actions.Doctor Jekyll had all these thoughts and decided to try a dangerous experiment with which he could achieve this dream, if everything went well. However if you changed to that other person,as time passed, you could find it difficult to be yourself again and heavily affect your personality;and there is a very interesting adventure revolving around that topic.

I  would recommend this book to everyone that likes, kind of dark, mystery and fantasy books.

A letter

Hi Patrick,
Thanks for your news.It was great to hear from you.It' very good that you are saving up money.
I'm very happy that I will be able to help you.I think that you should get a new TV for your bedroom. If you buy a smart TV you will have TV and laptop together. With a smart TV you can do exactly the same things that you did with your laptop and more. The best thing is that you will have a bigger screen. Now that you don't have a laptop don't worry you can use your phone instead.
You wanted to know where to look for a TV or a laptop. There are a lot of good places. You should search in a gadget shop. Also, you asked me about where to find information. You should search online on websites and in magazines, too.
I'm really sorry but I won't be able to meet you on Friday because my cousin is coming from Greece. Are you free next week ?Let me know soon.

Take care
Konstantina

Letter To The Editor!

           Dear Editor,
I am writing to you to express my opinion regarding the article I read in your newspaper.
In my opinion social media has a positive effect on teenagers and their relationships. Friends can communicate with each other any time of the day and night. Furthermore, they can keep in touch via Skype, Facebook if they live away or are on holiday. Moreover, they can communicate face to face through video calls which is easier than messaging and also you can see their facial expressions.
Using social media does have some disadvantages, however. If you communicate with people you don't know, you must be careful, since there are many individuals who fool other people to get money or something else. In addition, you must not use social media too much, because in this way you will slowly lose your social life.
I firmly believe that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. If you can control yourself, social media can offer a lot of potential.
   Yours faithfully,
   Elpidoforos Christakis.

Letter to the Editor

         Dear Editor,
My classmates and I read the article about the change for some school lessons for example music, arts and physical education that they will be removed or that these lessons, kids will not have to stress on. We believe that it is not right and the reasons are below.
First of all, many children express  themselves through these subjects and if they are removed , they will be be very disappointed about it. Also, the most of them do not have time or can afford to do extra lessons after school, but if at school they find time to do their pastime and with instructors to help them this would be helpful. Futhermore, these subjrcts make chlidren relax when they are tired after all the other demanding hours of lessons.
Also, gymnastics and different types of arts help to keep an open mind and have a clear and clever thought about everything. In additin, some children want to do arts as work in the future and they will have the correct knowledge before the university because of school.
To sum up, my friends and I believe that arts and physical education is a good way to express our selves at school nd to relax.

          Yours faithfuly,
                      Maria

Essay: Should a friend always be honest?

Nowadays, some people think that a good friend is always honest, but is that really true?I think the statement is mostly true but sometimes it is not.
Most people would agree that a friend who is not truthful to you is not a friend. That's because we like to have friends who are honest with us.Furthermore,if they lie to each other, their friendship will be destroyed. Additionally,if someone lies to his best mate, his best mate will be betrayed.
However, every coin has 2 sides. There are times when they cannot be honest because if they are, they may hurt your feelings. For example,if your friend buys a T-shirt that does not suit him,you have to tell him that it looks fantastic on him,so you don't hurt his feelings. These lies are called white lies and you tell them to your friend in order to make him happy.
In conclusion,I agree that a good friend must be honest, but I also agree that some times a really good friend has to lie to you.
